In Memorium to Nikki Berg "The
Best Dog"
We lost our Nikki and there is a
very big hole in our family right now that only
Nikki could fill. Nikki was our “best
dog.” She was totally devoted to her pack,
protecting and caring for all with all her heart.
Though at times her illness was very tough,
she never complained and wanted simply to be
near.
Nikki was quiet, kind, gentle, and sweet.
She loved her rides in the car, smelling
the newness of the air that went by the windows.
She would gleefully toss and play with
new toys we brought home, and only Nikki was
allowed to squeak the ones that made noise in
our household. To this day, the other
two dogs rarely squeak a toy…that was Nikki’s
privilege and hers alone. Nikki was one
of a very few dogs that I know who could be
left with an open bag of potato chips and would
“guard them” while we were gone; not a chip
would be missing when we returned.
Nikki was true to her breed, was a devoted
watchdog who loved to walk right down the middle
of the street on her leash and “patrol” the
neighborhood, looking first to the left, then
to the right as she marched along. When
something was amiss, she would simply stop and
watch, then think about what was happening.
She would only give her special “woo-woo”
when a warning was needed. Nikki never
bit or snapped, yet if either my wife or I was
in danger, we had no doubts that she would take
care of us with all her impressive strength.
Not a day goes by when we don’t think about
her and how very precious she was. She
was our special little girl and we thank God
for the wonderful life that we shared with her.
We love you, Nikki. God bless.
