Nikki's Acupuncture

Nikki has weakness in her

hind end and will be getting 6 weekly treatments to see if we can

improve her muscle tone and help her move more freely.  This was the

first treatment.

March 25, 2002

Nikki is going for her 5th treatment this Thursday, and she is definitely better.  The two measures I use are how fast she can go up the stairs at night and how much muscle tone she has in her hind legs when we wipe her feet when she comes in from outside.

Her feet sometimes kick a little now when we wipe them (she's got ticklish feet!).  The other night, she scooted upstairs so fast that Dottie was looking for her downstairs and thought there was no way she could have gotten upstairs so fast.  Her speed is about 4 times better.

Will talk with Jeanne Wordley after the 6th treatment to find out where we go from here, but so far, it seems to be working and with NO SIDE EFFECTS, NO DRUGS!

Nikki went for another treatment today.   She has changed Acupuncture doctors because Dr. Wordley no longer is able to see patients at Wilmington Animal Hospital .   She now is only seeing patients at Old Marple Hospital , which is in Philadelphia off of the Blue Route .

Nikki’s new Acupuncture Dr. is Chris Makowski, (610) 255-5372) who has a practice just outside of Newark on Route 896.   She does acupuncture, chiropractic, and holistic medicine.   She works on dogs and cats and horses too.

She first did a careful exam on Nikki’s back, then did a chiropractic adjustment using a small tool that gave brief taps (didn’t hurt…she tried it on me) along Nikki’s spine.   This treatment loosened up her vertebrae so that they could “come into alignment” again.   Then she inserted acupuncture needles, just as had been done before.   This time, Dr. Makowski added a new needle on the top of her head (see photo), and it looked pretty cute!

Nikki has also just been diagnosed with diabetes, so she is now getting twice daily insulin injections, which she doesn’t mind a bit.   It’s only been a day on insulin, but she seems to feel better and have more energy already.   We will continue to do what we can and to say our prayers.
